The Pentagon team will be onsite on the day with staff manning the pink colour station as well as other members of the team taking part in the Dash! Keep an eye for their vehicles standing guard on the station to ensure everyone has their fair share of the colour fun!
With just over a week to go before our fantastic event we can reveal that Dearne FM will be onsite at our Rainbow Dash at Locke Park to help get the party started!
Presenter Ian Laverick will be onstage when out event kicks off and throughout the run, with our upbeat, party tunes! Also being played will be the full track “Everybody Know’s” by local band The Harringtons who won our competition to become our promo event soundtrack. The EP will be available to pre-order on iTunes and google play from the 22nd of June. The release date is the 14th of July.

The competition was run by the charity to find a catchy, upbeat song to inspire people to sign up to this years Rainbow Dash event on Sunday 25th June at Locke Park. All the songs that were submitted to the charity are fantastic and it was a very difficult decision however Local Band The Harringtons won with their song “Everybody Knows”.

Celebrity and local legend, Dickie Bird OBE, has shown his support to Barnsley Hospital Charity’s Tiny Hearts Appeal by donating to the cause for a second time.
Following on from his generous donation last year, Dickie has made another huge £35,000 donation to the cause taking the appeal past the £500,000 half way point.
The legendary former cricket umpire, Harold Dennis “Dickie” Bird OBE, was born in Barnsley and is a much loved celebrity in the local area and beyond. Dickie has chosen to back the Tiny Hearts Appeal for a second year running and his donation will be a giant step forward for the appeal meeting the target of £1 million.
The Tiny Hearts Appeal was launched to support the development of a brand new, state of the art neonatal unit for babies who need special care. The unit will be situated alongside the Barnsley Birthing Centre which means that the babies will not have to be exposed to different environments and different temperature changes, nor will they have to be taken into an elevator.
Barnsley Hospital Charity’s Chairman, Steve Wragg, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Dickie Bird OBE has chosen to support our Tiny Hearts Appeal again.
“We are extremely grateful for Dickie’s second, very generous donation of £35,000. This money has taken the Tiny Heart’s Appeal running total past the half way mark of £500,000 which is absolutely fantastic!”
Dickie said of his donation: “I am delighted and honoured to be involved with Barnsley Hospital Charity’s Tiny Hearts Appeal. Barnsley is my home town and the appeal is raising money for a tremendous cause for the people here. I have been and visited the ward and seen for myself the great work of the staff caring for the premature babies and I felt very humbled – it brought a lump in my throat and a tear to my eye.
“I sincerely hope that everyone will put their hands in their pockets to support this worthy cause and I’m sure it will give people the same sense of pride as I feel to be involved in this. If everyone in Barnsley donated just £1, it would be a massive boost to the appeal, taking the total towards the £1million target.”
Dickie presented his donation to Barnsley Hospital Charity and staff from the neonatal unit at a special cheque presentation ceremony which took place at Barnsley Hospital on Thursday 26 March.

It is also really personal for Helen Dixon, one of our Amdramers who had her little boy Thomas at Barnsley Hospital. Thomas was 10 weeks premature and Helen knows first hand of how important the baby unit is. She is excited to help raise money for Tiny Hearts.

Tiny Hearts Incubator in main reception at Barnsley Hospital
Barnsley Hospital Charity would like to say a big thank you to its staff, patients and the general public who have made donations to the Tiny Hearts Appeal Incubator – no matter how big or small – helping it raise a staggering £11,522.63.
The initiative was officially launched at World Prematurity Day on 17 November, and has proven to be a huge success, contributing significantly to the charity’s capital appeal, bringing the current total to almost £120,000 for the appeal.
The Tiny Hearts Appeal is a campaign run by the charity which aims to raise £1 million to support the development of a brand new, state of the art neonatal unit for babies who need special care. The unit will be situated alongside the Barnsley Birthing Centre which means that the babies will not have to be exposed to different environments and different temperature changes, nor will they have to be taken into an elevator.
The charity received the incubator after it was kindly donated free of charge by Drager Medical UK Limited, it is being used as a visual tool for the Tiny Hearts Appeal to increase public awareness. Special signage has been created and placed as a backdrop to create a large visual display on entrance to the hospital.
The incubator is acting as a giant money box to raise funds for the appeal and has been sealed and secured by the Trust’s engineering department to ensure it is safe.
Diane Wake, Chief Executive of Barnsley Hospital says:
“Since its launch, it has received many positive comments from staff, patients and the public and has proved to be a real hit and vocal point of conversation.
“Children stop to put their pocket money inside, and parents explain to their children that they were once cared for in an incubator. Everyone has a story to tell, and they often share these with us.
“We all know someone who has had a baby or is due to have a baby and this is a chance to raise funds for Barnsley Hospital and support the build of a brand new home for Barnsley’s special care babies.”
Premature babies are underdeveloped and have to be given extra help for their tiny bodies to cope with the outside world, and can spend up to 13-14 weeks on the unit. The care on the unit is focused around allowing the babies to fully develop and the current unit needs to be updated and expanded in order to allow parents to have proper bonding time with their babies.
