Local Spook-Fest to Support Tiny Hearts Appeal
This year we are delighted that Serial Scarers Rachael and David along with their sons Jak and Harry have chosen to support our Tiny Hearts appeal with their Halloween Scare. After 7 years of putting on their ‘Scare’ around their house, which attracts visitors from miles around, this year the couple have decided to use their Ghoulish Garden to raise vital funds to support the development and relocation of the NeoNatal unit at Barnsley Hospital.
Mum Rachael said “It all started because when the kids were younger there was nowhere to go Trick or Treating with no local Halloween activities so we decided to hold our own ‘Halloween Scare!’. For the last couple of years people have asked if are fundraising with our event so this year we decided to support a local charity and, having children of our own, we felt the Tiny Hearts appeal was the one we wanted to support. With the whole family now involved including Grandparents, Nieces and Nephews as well as Jak & Harry’s friends, each year is bigger and better than the last. It’s a really great atmosphere… and to be fair the adults scream louder than kids! Even the ‘tough’ teenagers come along and all run out screaming!”
If you are interested in coming along for your very own Scare, the event is held at 25 Park Grove, Barnsley!

The Sound of Success
Our fantastic Tiny Hearts supporter Jeff who works here at Barnsley Hospital organised the fantastic Rock for Cause Evening which was held on 29th September at East Dene WMC. The event featured Beardsmith along with DJ Mick West.
The event brought in over £1,260 for the Tiny Hearts Appeal bringing our current total to over £575k!
The event was kindly sponsored by GMB Union, Rhys Davies Logistics, F&G Commercials Ltd and Ortho Health+ and we would like to thank them for their support! There was a huge number of raffle prizes donated including the star prize of a 2 night stay in a lovely holiday cottage in Wensleydale along with various vouchers and lots of wine! All prizes have been claimed and we would like to thank everyone who donated a prize along with everyone who bought a raffle ticket!
Organiser Jeff says “It was such a fantastic night and I would like to give a massive thank you to everyone who contributed, I could not have done it without you! A huge thanks to the East Dene WMC providing the venue free of charge, Keith and his bar staff who worked so hard. A special thanks to my old mate Mick the DJ and what can I say about the band they never fail to amaze me. Thanks to the caterers who supplied far too much food. Big thanks to Jay , Sarah, Amy for selling raffle tickets. Avril says I can’t organise any more as it stresses me out but we will see…”

Isobel’s Fantastic Fundraising
We would like to say a huge thank you to 11 year old fundraiser Isobel!
Isobel decided to support our Tiny Hearts appeal with a sponsored hair cut. She and her twin brother arrived 11 weeks early at just 29 weeks at Dewsbury hospital. After just 6 days they came over to be cared for on our NeoNatal unit here at Barnsley Hospital. Thanks to the wonderful care they received, Isobel and her brother Luke were home just 5 weeks later.
She decided she wanted to say Thank You in her own special way by fundraising for the Tiny Hearts Appeal which is supporting the relocation and development of the new unit here at Barnsley Hospital where her mum works as a Community Midwife.
Isobel raised a fantastic £351 for our appeal and also donated her beautiful long hair to the Little Princess Trust. The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs free of charge to children across the UK and Ireland that have sadly lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other illnesses.
I am sure you will all agree this was such a wonderful and thoughtful deed and her new hair style looks beautiful! Thank you Isobel!

Thank you for our first #FirstTenner
We have had our first #FirstTenner donation into the incubator this weekend and would like to thank our anonymous donor! It is great to see it snuggled in with fellow New Fivers from all the wonderful donations we receive into the incubator!
So far our wonderful donors have filled the incubator with a staggering £46 thousand since it’s placement back in November 2015!
Don’t forget, if you pay tax it may be possible for the charity to claim Gift Aid on your donation, simply complete one of the charity envelopes (sat on top of the Incubator) with your full address and signature, pop in your donation and post it into the incubator! For every #FirstTenner donated your donation will be increased by £2.50 at no extra cost to you. All donations placed in the incubator will go to our Tiny Hearts Appeal!
If you have organised a fundraising event or making a larger donation to the Tiny Hearts appeal we would love to hear all about it! Please either contact the charity office at barnsleyhospitalcharity@nhs.net or call us on 01226 431650. We’d love to shout out about our wonderful Hospital Heros!

Local Golf Club score an Ace
Our wonderful supporters at Tankersley Park Golf Club are helping us raise vital funds for the Tiny Hearts Appeal after their lady Captain chose us as her charity of the year earlier this year.
During the Summer they held a ‘Call The Midwife’ themed Captains day which saw the lady members of the club dressing up as various characters from the popular TV series.
So far with their fundraising they have already raised nearly £500. Lady Captain Gina said “There are two reasons I chose Tiny Hearts, one is because 3 of my grandchildren needed incubators when they were born. The other is because I had breast cancer 13 yrs ago and I didn’t want to go down that route. I wanted to focus on new young life, I found that more satisfying.”
The fundraising continues as they are holding a Fashion show on Tuesday 3rd October from 7pm at the Golf Club with Tickets costing just £5 which include a Glass of Wine and Nibbles.
For more information on this event please click here.
Once again we would like to thank Gina and her fellow members for their continued support.
